I have had THE most amazing day today! At 9:30am we went to a local village where the 2nd year nursing students put on a community health presentation about TB; prevention, s/s, treatment, etc. It was about 1 1/2hr and was recorded by the Eternal University Media Dept. Some of the community came out to hear what was being said. After that we visited with two of the physicians who always take part in the medical camp at the hospital. The camp will be run this week, Thur and Fri. We then drove back to the University and were presented to the revered spiritual leader of the Sikh community, Baba Ji. He had Dr. Derstine, myself, and Dr. & Mrs. Portwood sit up close to his resting place on the floor. He is a very peaceful, calm man who speaks very little. He presented to each of us a long, colorful scarf which the women use to cover their heads with, one was a very light cloth of orange, the other a beautifully woven piece. He placed them personally over our heads, on our shoulders.
He is residing in a 'new home' near the larger room where he used to receive people. Inside the walls are completely covered with a fragrant, hay-like, dried brown grass. It provides a warm, peaceful aspect to the space. Maybe it was actually lavender-I don't know.
There were three other very distinguished looking men sitting around Baba Ji as well.
It was an honor to meet Baba Ji.
